On clicking the "Step 1" a small application is downloaded which detects whether the ghost drive which contains the factory image is plausible. However, my ghost drive was corrupted so that was dead end for me. But I believe if someone has the ghost drive intact this might work.

The parameter is incorrect. I just wanted to thank everyone on this thread. I have a Dell Studio S17 that would crash when windows started. F8 would not function. Tried reinstalling windows but that didn't start fresh so I wanted a factory image restoration. I did that using the steps above but missed the part about formatting the hard drive first. Went to boot up the computer and the crashing started again.
Then I realized that I needed to format first the use imagex. When done correctly this works great. I have my computer back up and running as when it was new.
